Flight Prep (Fly Light)

On today's 183rd episode of my MMPT and the 5th week of bringing you Take Flight V4.0, I will compare the actual physics behind AIR FLIGHT and how it compares to building a life and business that is in flow.  There are elements of your life and business that must be considered and require attention and preparation before you can get truly serious about building your dream business.

Let's look at what it takes to get an actual aircraft to 30,000 feet. The physics of flight require that lift, drag, weight, and thrust happen at the correct time and in the proper amounts. For an airplane to go up into the air, the lift has to be stronger than the force of gravity. Lift happens at the wings as air passes over them. Airfoils in the wings make the air move over the tops of the wings faster than it moves across the bottoms of the wings. The faster air decreases the air pressure on the tops of the wings, and the air pressure gets higher on the bottoms of the wings, which is the basis for air flight principle. This is how lift happens. The weight of the airplane determines how much lift and thrust it takes to get it off the ground. The thrust comes from a plane’s jet engines and has to be a stronger force than the drag. Drag happens as the airplane naturally resists moving through the air. The shape of an airplane helps reduce the drag, which helps it fly faster.

There is one line in that description that I would like to focus on today. “The weight of the airplane determines how much lift and thrust it takes to get it off the ground.”  As we move through Take Flight V4.0, I would compare the "weight of an aircraft" to the stagnant, negative energy we have in our minds and environment. The less stagnant, negative energy you have in your mind and environment, the easier it is to get lift, gain altitude and create speed in our business. And that means that your engines – your lead generation and referral strategies - will have to provide less power to gain altitude.

When you think the traditional real estate coaching or sales training that is available to you, your expectations might be that you would be immediately introduced to a set of new processes, lead generation strategies, time management ideas, etc. That is understood because most brokers want to jump straight to action, but in TAKE FLIGHT, I like to start from the inside of your mind and environment and work out from there. Don't worry, we'll hit on all of those topics, but first it's important to rid your mind, your environment, and your business of what is not working.

Let me ask you - would you fully irrigate or plant seeds in a garden before making sure all the weeds are gone? No. In the same way, in TAKE FLIGHT V4.0, we start by weeding and pruning. Unfortunately, this approach is not taught consistently. Instead, we tend to get sold the shiny objects that are just noise and, in many cases, take our time, focus, and energy with limited results. Getting to 30,000 feet takes self-review, time and consistent effort. The question is always How?

Here are some areas that require self-review in an effort to identify and eliminate negative, stagnant energy:

  1. Mindset:  We went into in great detail on the last episode. It all starts and stops with your mind. I've seen brokers see huge success by deleting old paradigms around what it means to be successful, normally created by a lifetime of programming. I’ve seen some brokers want to hide their success from family members because their financial position is so much more advanced than how they grew up. I’ve also seen brokers literally work themselves into the ground to live up to expectations placed on them by others. If you have not listened to last week's call, MMPT #182, it is a must listen. You have to understand the mind. It all starts and stops between the ears.
  2. Environment: Your physical environment has to be built for success. Show me your closets, your desk, your refrigerator and your spice rack and I can tell you how stressed you are on a daily basis. Most of our negative, stagnant energy lives in our physical environment. IF this is you, it’s time to finally take on this project and get it done. Your environment must be calm and serene to live in FLOW, to fly at 30,000 feet.
  3. Time:  We waste so much time on worthless, unproductive activities. Limit time on social media and listening to the news. To TAKE FLIGHT, you’ll need to really live with intention and protect your time.
  4. Finances: Get automated, delete debt, invest regularly. You can make all of the money in the world, but if it is managed poorly and bad decisions are made, you’ll never fully get off the ground.
  5. Relationships: You are the average of the 5 people with whom you spend the most time. I’m not saying you have get rid of relationships that are bad, just make sure those relationships are not in your top 5. In some cases, you may need to move on from a relationship in order to TAKE FLIGHT. Hint: Create an accountability group of 3 to 4 like-minded, happiness driven brokers.  Discuss your wins and losses.  Support each other.
  6. Health and Wellness:  Many battle in this area. The best results come from what we don’t do, eat or drink.
  7. Business Strategies:  There’s a lot more to come on this topic during our TAKE FLIGHT series. My goal for you is to do less with better results. Get rid of what doesn’t work and get really good and consistent at what does work for you. Every business is different. We’ll discover ways together on how best to identify where your efforts should be pointed.

Did this TAKE FLIGHT V4.0 series just get completely real for you? Good! My job is not to always tell you what you want to hear. As you know, I am not a therapist, a Fung Shui organizer, a financial planner, an attorney, or a fitness instructor so you may ultimately need to seek assistance from a team of professionals that can hold you accountable. What I will tell you is that if you really tackle the 7 areas I listed above, you will not recognize yourself in a year. I've seen action in these areas literally change people, their lives, and their businesses. There is so much opportunity for growth if you tackle these areas with consistent effort. Most of you listening are really good at what you do professionally but you have weeds that need to be removed before you focus further on planting. If you complement the skills you already have with consistent, intentional effort to delete negative, stagnant energy from your mind and environment, you will not recognize your life and business a year from now.

One of my favorite guiding principles is "High Performance starts with Elimination” because it makes so much sense.

Your takeaway from this call should be to focus on less. Sometimes less is more. Delete what is not working. To prepare for flight, you need to fly light. It will take way less effort to get to 30,000 feet if you have less baggage.
