Take Flight: Prepare for Landing

Alright, we've come to the end of our "Take Flight" journey, including today, that has taken you through 20 episodes and 5+ hours of content. During these calls, we've taught you how to identify what drives your performance and how to execute at a fundamental level. You've set a destination for your flight and, again, a "flight" is defined as an "intermediate goal that usually takes a month, a quarter, a year and sometimes longer.” Your FLIGHT must be specific, measurable and have a deadline included. "Flights" help you get to your bigger goals in life, defined by your answers to the fundamental questions, "How do you want to live?" and "Who do you want to be?"

Each "Flight" is designed to land as it approaches its destination (goal). It is important that you review your flight before it lands and ask yourself a couple of questions:

Think back and review why you took the flight in the first place.

  • Is it still relevant?
  • Did it get you closer to your bigger goals?
  • What did you learn from the process?
  • What would you do differently? How has the process changed you for the long run?
  • What's next?
  • How will you take the momentum from your current flight and transfer it to your next flight?

Team, success over the long haul is made up of stringing "successful flights" together without interruption. If you stop your growth, you stop your momentum. When the momentum stops, you have to start over. Whatever the length of that interruption, it will require the same amount of time to recapture that momentum. There are times in your life and business where an interruption cannot be avoided, say for health reasons or family commitments. What you want to avoid are the "unforced" interruptions. So, take some time and just think. Did this flight get you closer to your overlying goals? What's next? Chart your path, course-correct and start planning your next flight that will help you get even closer to how you want to live and who you want to be.

Creating this "Take Flight" course using our MMPT platform was in a way a "flight" for me. I'll be landing "Take Flight" for the time being and I’ll focus in 2021 on teaching the finer details and nuance of running a real estate brokerage business.

"Take Flight" is the fundamentals. If you were building a house, it could be compared to everything "up to the drywall.”  It is literally the foundation, the framing, the exterior, the windows, the plumbing, heating/cooling, electric, low voltage, insulation and the drywall.  You cannot build a long-lasting, functional dwelling without these systems. It would have literally no value. The same goes with your business. You must have the structural, foundational principles of Mindset, Productivity, Lead Generation, Value Creation and Database and Relationship Management. The fundamentals aren't always sexy or "Instagram-able.”  They're kind of boring and that's why you don't hear these topics brought up consistently throughout the industry. They're not especially "click-worthy.”

Moving forward, the focus of these MMPTs and the Podcast will be more on execution of the details that your clients will most likely see. You'll probably find it way more interesting than the content I cranked out in 2020. Don't worry, you'll be able to go back and to listen to "Take Flight" on Soundcloud and Apple Podcasts. And, you’ll be able to access a page on my website dedicated to Take Flight, where you will be able to listen to each episode and connect to resources from beginning to end. My intention in offering the course through these calls because of the pandemic has been to offer up all of the content for you to revisit and share easily. Rest assured, I will be reminding you constantly of the fundamentals, but in 2021 we'll start picking the mill work, the paint colors, floors, tile, cabinets, the countertops, plumbing fixtures, et cetera for your business.

Until then, have a wonderful holiday season. Congratulations on finishing your Flight. Take a minute over the holidays to journal what you learned in 2020. There is so much good that comes out of times of stress, trust me. Take Flight was built out of stress and desperation. Make the remainder of your 2020 magical and get ready for a fabulous 2021. It's going to be a breakout year for you.
